Robert L. Dufault Sr., IAAI-CFI, CFEI

Mr. Dufault is a Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) by the International Association of Arson Investigators, a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) by the National Association of Arson Investigators, a Certified Fire Inspector I (NFPA), Rhode Island Assistant Deputy State Fire Marshal.

He is an 18 year veteran of the Newport Fire Department in Newport, Rhode Island where he is currently the Captain of Fire Suppression and responsible for fire origin and cause investigations, plan review, code compliance, acceptances of newly installed fire protection systems such as sprinkler and fire alarm. He worked as a firefighter for 12 years before being promoted to the Fire Prevention Division in 2010.

Since 2010 Mr. Dufault has attended the New York State Fire Academy where he received Fire Investigation I and II Certified Training and Electrical Fire Cause Determination I and II. He attended the National Fire Academy Interview, Interrogation and Courtroom Testimony 208 Class and he is currently enrolled in his senior year in the Fire, Arson, and Explosion Investigation Bachelor’s Degree Program at Eastern Kentucky University.

Mr. Dufault serves on the NIST-OSAC, Fire & Explosion Subcommittee, Comparative Analysis of Relevant Standards Task Group. NFPA 921 Task Group Chapter 6 Fire Patterns and Chapter 28 Wildland Fires. He is currently 2nd Vice President of the Rhode Island Chapter of the IAAI, Vice President of Local 1080 Newport Firefighters, and past Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Burn Foundation.
