Gregory Gorbett, Ph.D., IAAI-CFI, CFEI, CFPS, CFII, CVFI, MIFireE

Greg Gorbett is an Associate Professor in the Fire, Arson and Explosion Investigation degree program at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky.  He currently serves as a director for the National Association of Fire Investigators, as vice chair for the Fire and Arson Investigator Journal of the IAAI, as principal member of NFPA 921-Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations, and as principal member of NFPA 1033-Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator.  He also currently serves as the secretary for the Fire and Explosion Investigation subcommittee for the Organization of Scientific Area Committees as part of an initiative by NIST and the Department of Justice to strengthen forensic science in the United States.

For the past 16-years, he has worked as a fire and explosion expert. Gorbett holds two Bachelor of Science degrees, in Fire Science and Forensic Science and two Master of Science degrees, one in Executive Fire Service Leadership, and the other in Fire Protection Engineering.  He also holds a Ph.D. in Fire Protection Engineering. Additionally, he is certified as a fire investigator (IAAI-CFI), fire and explosion investigator (CFEI), vehicle fire investigator (CVFI), fire protection specialist (CFPS), and certified instructor (CFII). He is also a private investigator registered in Kentucky and Michigan.

Gorbett has received numerous educational honors and was recognized as one of the nation’s Top 5 fire experts, the 15 Fire Arson Investigation professors and Top 10 Fire Science Instructors in the Southern U.S.

​Dr. Gorbett has been invited to lecture at the National Association of Fire Investigators, the National Fire Protection Association, The British Fire Service College, various universities throughout the U.S. and Hoseo University in South Korea.
